A close game on ‘The Planka’ saw Tref-Y-Clawdd RFC take the spoils with a 14-15 win.
It was Tref who came out of the blocks quickest and controlled the opening 20 minutes which resulted in them crossing in the corner for a try that went unconverted. In a topsy turvey game it was Ogmores turn to control the next 20, winning quite a few penalties, particularly at scrum time but only managing to come away with 2 Karl Jones penalty kicks making the score 6-5. Then just on the stroke of half time Tref scored their 2nd try of the game, again coming wide out with the conversion missed.
HT Ogmore 6 v Tref-y-Clawdd 10
The second half pretty much followed the pattern of the first being quite to-and-fro. Ogmore scored first with another penalty, this time from Billy Sinclair but that was followed by a 3rd try for Tref putting the score at 9-15. With 5 minutes to go a try from home wing Owen Davies gave Ogmore the chance to win it but a very difficult conversion was missed leaving the final score 14-15.
Next week we have a break for Super Saturday but the week after we welcome league leaders Dinas Powys Rugby club to the Planka.
