Today Ogmore Vale RFC hosted Tonna RFC in a league fixture which looked to excite all who attended to watch. Ogmore Vale RFC looked to pick up on a narrow loss from last week and gain revenge after losing away at Tonna earlier this season.
A game which didn’t excite due to weather conditions and field conditions and the referee’s whistle not allowing the game to flow.
It was the away side who struck the first blow, ill-discipline from the home side allowed them to take the lead with a neatly struck penalty early on 0-3.
The game never really kicked on from here and the spectators from the side-line saw a game which failed to ignite.
Chances were created from the home team which failed and unable to capitalise on, this was the story of the day. Both teams’ discipline was poor and gave away numerous amounts of penalties and both teams saw a man sent to the bin for the poor judgement at the breakdown.
Second half Tonna RFC were playing against a heavy wind and Ogmore Vale dominated majority of possession and territory. Unable to seize the opportunity to take the lead Tonna RFC broke clear and managed to find themselves deep into Ogmore Vale territory to which they managed to turn pressure into points. A story of which Ogmore Vale failed to do all afternoon. Tonna took their chance and increased the score line to 8-0 with 10minutes remaining on the clock.
Ogmore Vale finally responded and reacted well to falling two scores behind, all their pressure was converted into their first points of the afternoon. In form winger Tom Dunn squeezing over in the corner to make It his second try in his last two appearances. 5-8.
Final minutes on the clock allowed Ogmore Vale RFC once last chance to try and snatch the win. Strong defence and handling errors saw Tonna take a massive victory away from home to the delight of travelling fans. A game which the home side will be Hugely disappointed in, having controlled much of the second half but unable to covert pressure into points. Final Score Ogmore Vale RFC 5 – 8 Tonna RFC.
Next up, Ogmore Vale RFC travel to Cwmtwrch RFC where they will hope to pick up some much-needed away points.
