Ogmore Vale RFC 21 - 5 Rhigos RFC

Saturday Ogmore Vale RFC welcomed Rhigos RFC to Ogmore Park to fulfil their Division 3 West Central C Fixture.  When the two sides met earlier on in the season it was Ogmore Vale RFC who took the points away from home, so the home side were looking to complete a league double over their neighbours.

Ogmore Vale started the first half the brighter, playing towards the changing rooms they dominated possession straight from the off and put the visitors on the back foot. A well worked move from the backline allowed centre Jonathan Pickett to break clear only for the final pass to go astray into touch on the oppositions own 5metre line.

Rhigos RFC with the line-out following this, openside Nathan Leach managed to steal and once again found possession in the hands of Ogmore Vale close to the try line. The pack tried to pick and go and a few phases later outside half Mike James managed to get his hands free in the contact to allow Skipper Karl Jones over for the first score of the game 5 minutes in. Ogmore Vale 7-0 conversion successfully taken by Thomas Dunn.

Ogmore Vale having the upper hand in the half allowed them to stretch the lead with a penalty, neatly converted by Thomas Dunn 10-0. Rhigos RFC battled well throughout the half but saw outstanding defence from the home side to keep them scoreless. It was Ogmore Vale who scored the next points once again, Skipper Karl Jones once again diving over for his and Ogmore’s second try of the game. This time it went unconverted 15-0 half time.

Second half Rhigos RFC regathered themselves and applied more pressure, however a needless penalty to give away in the red zone allowed winger Thomas Dunn to step up and take another 3points on offer to increase the scoreline to 18-0.

The visitors showed determination and after a number of strong carries from their forwards allowed them to get deep into Ogmore’s half. A number of pick and go’s close to the try line allowed them to get their first points of the game which went unconverted 18-5.

Only score to be added to this was another 3 points from the boot of Thomas Dunn. Final score 21-5 to Ogmore Vale RFC who climb above the visitors in the league standings.

With the Six Nations looming Ogmore Vale now have a two-week break and they travel west to play Pantyffynnon RFC in the league on 15th February 2020.
