This Weekend Ogmore Vale RFC were at home to Ponyates RFC in a game they sore as a must win before the Christmas break to boost their league position. A fixture which threatened to produce a quality attacking display due to blistering wind conditions.
It was the travelling team who took the first points on offer. Ogmore Vale needlessly conceding a penalty underneath their own posts which was neatly slotted over by the opposing 12.
The first half Ogmore Vale defended with great dignity, Pontyates threw everything at them but were unable to break the solid wall in black and amber. Shortly afterwards the tide changed, and it was the home side who built some pressure. After consecutive penalties Ogmore Vale drew the scores level from the boot of Karl Jones. Both teams battled hard, but no other scores were to be added in the first half 3-3.
Second half kicked off, Ogmore Vale now with the wind behind their backs started positively from kick-off. A confident take from prop Jamie Powell and nice offloading allowed them to gain an easy 40yards.
As a spectator it was a difficult one to watch, second half sore the home team apply so much pressure but were unable to get across the whitewash. With 15minutes left from time, Ogmore Vale kicked to the corner from a penalty, a driving lineout looked destined to break the deadlock only for it to be pulled down. Nevertheless, a few phases later ever-present prop Jamie Powell burrowed over the line to make it 8-3 Ogmore Vale.
No other scores were added to this, a physical game in which both defences battled hard. A win Ogmore Vale RFC will be pleased with just before the break.
