Pontardawe RFC 32 - 20 Ogmore Vale RFC

Saturday Ogmore Vale RFC travelled to Pontardawe to fulfil their league fixture. It was a poor start for the away side as Pontardawe raced out of the blocks to score a fine try in the corner which went unconverted.

The game went a bit quiet for some time as both teams went toe to toe with each other with no score being produced. Poor discipline from the home side cost them 3 points when captain Karl Jones chose to take the points on offer. Some end to end attacks late in the first half led to a further try from Pontardawe RFC again from wide out which went unconverted. Score line at this stage was 10-3 to the home side.

Then A Stubborn Ogmore Team with a never say die attitude managed to get the score lines level with a fine try from scrum half Leon Jones. A penalty from the home side just before the half time whistle was enough to separate the teams, 13-10 Pontardawe.

Second Half seemed a different spectacle from the first, Ogmore Vale RFC started the brighter with a positive kicking game from Outside half Michael James. Unfortunately, this transpired, and the home side took advantage on poor defence to race three scores clear which was helped by the inform full back who had a fine day with counter attacking.

Ogmore Vale RFC turned to their bench to add some more energy and bolster the pack, this was quickly deemed a positive move as soon after a try was scored by Mark Rayner which seemed to rattle the home side. Veteran player Robert Swift then made an impact with a great take off the kick-off and charge powerfully at the defence, a couple of good phases later it was another of the veterans to cross the line, Gavin Beckey with a great try after the forwards got the better of the opposition pack.

Game finished 32-20 to the home side Pontardawe RFC, Ogmore Vale will be pleased with some aspects of the game and will look to take this forward to their next league game which is away to Tonna RFC on the 28thSeptember 2019.
