HOME Vs Furnace Utd

First game back at Ogmore Park for over three months where we welcomed Furnace Utd. Sweeping changes in the pack form last time out as powerhouse David Price returned at 8 and Matthew Ridge returning at 6, plus a shift in the front row as Corey Evans is welcomed back in favour of the veteran international Steve Lyons. Also changes in the backline seen Kane Ryan Jones prefered at 13 with Mike James occupying the 10 shirt for todays game.

The changes seemed to have positive effect early on as the pack dominated in the scrums pushing the away side off the ball multiple times. Furnace were also suffering in line outs with flanker Nathan Leach leading the way causing frustration to the away side. Furnace conceded a penalty early on and were punished by the golden boot of Kane Ryan Jones making it 3-0. A well worked try soon followed, srum half and captain Sam Griggs with quick ball and great vision to put Dai Price over in the corner. Golden boots Kane Ryan Jones then slotted a fine touchline conversion to make the score 10-0. Furnace did fight their way back into the game and after wining two penalties they slotted them both over the posts, another penatly was converted by Jones though which made the score at half time 13-6 to Ogmore.

Furnace started the second half much the brighter and after a period of dominace got themselves another penalty and brought the score to 13-9. But Nathan Leach proved to be a nuisance all game really causing the away side problems and soon the pressure gave in with what can only be described as a hot contender for try of the season. Superb vision along with great technique by Kane Ryan Jones with a cross field kick to put top finisher Adam Jones in over the whitewash. A conversion followed and put the score at 20-9. Furnace were not giving up yet though and when their centre burst through the line to score under the sticks it set up a nervy last 10 mins for the home side. But Ogmores defence held out no thanks to excellent performances from every member of the squad and it is a result to be proud of !!
